Marvin and Meyvn

I saw this couple on the train platform. They each had a bag of M & Ms. His was peanut butter, hers caramel maybe? They stood in the early morning air, feeding each other M & Ms, over and over. It made me think of heroin addict couples that shoot each other up, how the act can be masochistic without a sadistic component. Part of me also imagined that these were strangers, who seeing the other also holding a large bag of M & Ms, saw in coincidence something they mistook for fate, and so followed it toward the other, toward the other outstretched hand proffering up the complimentary-flavored candy, which they opened wide and let rest on their tongue to melt.
